WAH - Chapter 9

Isaiah 54:17
no weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed,
and you shall confute every tongue that rises against you in judgment.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord
and their vindication from me, declares the Lord.
(ESV. 2001. Wheaton: Standard Bible Society)

2 Corinthians 10:4-5
For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,
(ESV. 2001. Wheaton: Standard Bible Society)

God’s promises to us as we obey Him are deeply reassuring.  The accuser of your soul is defeated by scripture as you confess what God says about you.  We inherit this blessing from God our Father and we are vindicated by Him.  In context, the verses in 2nd Corinthians speak to those who are false teachers and in unrepentant sin within the Church.  I like to also claim the scripture for myself.  Praying that every argument, opinion, and thought that is contrary to God would be taken captive for Christ.  As it says in the 23 and 24th verse of the 139th Psalm   Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting! (ESV)

Page 159 – It is fundamental to remember that we can come under spiritual attack and will likely come under spiritual attack. We are likely to be attacked when God is using us. Remember that Satan is a creature, is not omnipotent, is not omnipresent, and is not omniscient. Greater is He who is in you than he that is in the world.

Page 162 – The event in the car may or may not have been an attack from Satan. The condemnation afterwards certainly could be. Satan’s attacks can have a primary cause (spiritual evil in action) or a secondary cause (actions that occur as a result of the fall; the fall was primary).

Page 166 – Our resistance in the power of the Holy Spirit as the Grace of God works in us allows us to use the weapons of our warfare to battle effectively.

Page 168 – Lest we give the enemy of our souls too much credit … there are direct effects and indirect effects. While our enemy is at fault for both direct and indirect effects the manifold effects of sin in the world don’t mean that the enemy is omnipresent.

Page 170 and 171 – If we are convinced that we are under attack then we’ll respond correctly.

Page 173 – The elements of our armor can provide a great study of the fundamental aspects of the Gospel.

Page 175 – The bonds that Eldredge talks about will form when we fight together. The problem is that our level of spiritual battle is often casual at best.

Page 176 – When Jesus was wounded by those close to Him, He still kept His walk of holiness before God. We are going to get wounded. Sometimes it seems we stop the battle because we’ve got a blister.
